Belovezhskaya Pushcha makes it to N7W TOP 77 nominees

Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park has made it to TOP 77 nominees for the New7Wonders of Nature title. 

All voting is currently on hold, as the New7Wonders Panel of Experts is considering the TOP 77 nominees from the second phase, from which they will advise on the choice of the 28 Official Finalist Candidates. On 21 July 2009, the 28 Official Finalist Candidates will be announced, and on that day voting to be revealed in 2011. 

The project has been organized by New7Wonders Foundation, the Swiss non-profit organization. The goal of the project is to make the list of seven wonders of nature. 

The nature sites are divided into seven categories: landscape, ice formations; islands; mountains and volcanoes; caves, rock formations, valleys; forests, national parks, reserves; lakes, rivers, waterfalls; seascapes. The first phase of the contest was over in December 2008 and the second one on 7 July. 

Belovezhskaya Pushcha is one of the world’s oldest natural reserves. In 1992 UNESCO included it in the World Heritage List. The national park was awarded the status of a biosphere reserve in 1993 and a special diploma of the Council of Europe in 1997.
