Share of Belarus' merchandise exports to new promising markets to double by 2020

The share of merchandise exports to new promising markets will reach 10% by 2020, Belarus' Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said as he presented the government action plan for 2016-2020 in the Oval Hall on 5 April, BelTA has learned. “The share of the export of goods to new promising markets will increase to 10% by 2020 (it was less than 5% in 2015). The share of services in the total exports of goods and services will go up to 25% (slightly over 20% last year),” Andrei Kobyakov said. In his words, the government action plan spells out measures to implement the export development strategy and includes a number of fundamental instructions from the head of state on the diversification of exports, integration in the Eurasian Economic Union, the use of the cooperation potential with the EU and China, distant-arc countries. “Export supplies to three markets, i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union, the European Union and other countries should make up one third each by 2020,” the Belarusian head of government said. According to him, the export of services is considered a top-priority by the government. “This sector does not require a large-scale material and resource base. However, it can help us considerably increase our presence on foreign markets. The Hi-Tech Park, medical services, transport, logistics, inbound tourism, rural tourism, hunting business development are a real reserve for the growth of currency earnings,” the PM said. Andrei Kobyakov reminded the participants of the meeting that the government drafted the national export promotion program for 2016-2020. “This program envisages a set of economic and information measures. Its priorities are the optimization of the national export promotion system and the development of economic integration within the EEU,” the Belarusian head of government said.
