The crisis has not produced considerable changes in Belarus, Maira Mora, head of the European Union’s representative office in Belarus, told a press conference on 21 September. Maira Mora was in Belarus nearly a year ago last time.

Maira Mora used to be the ambassador of Latvia to Belarus. She said she had been surprised to see no major social and economic changes in Belarus despite the crisis. Only forex exchange rates and prices have changed, she believes.

“I am pleased to be the first ambassador of the European Union to Belarus. It may begin a new chapter in our relations,” said Maira Mora.
