Belarusian Metolit to ship medical equipment to Venezuela

The technological park Metolit of the Belarusian National Technical University plans to sell equipment for intravascular destruction of blood clots to Venezuela, Metolit Director General Yuri Alekseyev told.

According to the source, a Venezuelan delegation visited Belarus recently in order to get familiar with the application and effectiveness of Metolit solutions in surgeries.

The Belarusian product is based on mechanical and cavitational intravascular impact on clots and uses a flexible waveguide to deliver combined ultrasound vibrations.

At present the new equipment and treatment methods are used at the national R&D center Cardiology, the Minsk oblast clinical hospital. By 2010 Metolit plans to introduce ultrasound angioplasty (non-surgical opening of occluded vessels) into clinical practice and increase the number of such operations up to 400 per annum.

The possibility of exporting the innovative medical equipment to other countries, including China and Lithuania, is under consideration.

The equipment for intravascular destruction of blood clots and the treatment methods were designed as part of the state R&D program Cardiovascular Diseases by Belarusian National Technical University, the technological park Metolit in association with cardiologists of the national R&D center Cardiology and the Belarusian Medical Postgraduate Education Academy.

The technological park Metolit of the Belarusian National Technical University was founded in 1992. The industrial cluster develops, assimilates and batch produces new technologies, materials and equipment. Metolit also aids small innovation companies promoting their products.
