Belarus and Kyrgyzstan have plans to expand the deliveries of the MTZ tractors that are assembled in Kyrgyzstan to the countries of Central Asia, Iran and Afghanistan, said President of the Kyrgyz Republic Kurmanbek Bakiyev as he met with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on 26 November.

“We have started assembling the MTZ tractors in Bishkek at last. It is a very good result of our joint efforts. But we want to go ahead and establish a joint buses assembly venture,” said the Kyrgyz President.

Kurmanbek Bakiyev noted that in January-September 2009, the Belarus-Kyrgyzstan trade turnover increased by 30% on the same period 2008.

Speaking about possible membership of Kyrgyzstan in the Customs Union, Kurmanbek Bakiyev said: “Kyrgyzstan is a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO). I have already claimed that we are ready to access to the Customs Union, but the WTO put forward certain demands that we have to fulfill. Our experts are currently working on this problem. But it requires time,” said the Kyrgyz President.
