News Belarus-India Business Cooperation Council to hold session in Minsk 23 October
A session of the Belarus-India Business Cooperation Council will be held in Minsk on 23 October, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Ramesh Chander said as he met with Vladimir Kravtsov, First Deputy Chairman of the Mogilev oblast executive committee. The diplomat is in the Mogilev oblast on a two-day visit. Minsk is expected to welcome a big delegation of Indian businessmen who intend to discuss the prospects and areas of mutual cooperation with Belarusian businessmen. “Belarus and India have made progress in the development of bilateral relations, yet it does not meet our potential. This business meeting is expected to give a new impetus to the Indian-Belarusian cooperation,” the Ambassador said. According to him, the two countries have huge opportunities to develop economic cooperation almost in all areas especially in agriculture. Indian agrarians invest heavily in the development of agricultural production in Africa, Latin America and now in Ukraine and Moldova. Belarus should be on this list too as its agrarian sector is well-developed. “We need to provide each other with as much information as possible about our potential. This will help us promote all-round cooperation,” Ramesh Chander said. He also invited businessmen from Mogilev to take part in the session of the Belarus-India Business Cooperation Council. According to Vladimir Kravtsov, India is one of the most promising economic partners of the Mogilev oblast. India and the Mogilev region have managed to achieve a slight growth in both the export and import. In 2009, India’s share in the trade between the Mogilev oblast and non-CIS countries reached 1.1% as against 0.6% in 2008. “We would like to continue developing traditional cooperation in the oil and light industry, machine and elevators construction. We have interesting proposals for cooperation in agribusiness and processing sector,” Vladimir Kravtsov said. He also asked the Ambassador help Mogilev find a city or a state to establish close direct partnership relations to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and friendship between the Indian and Belarusian people. Vladimir Kravtsov also noted that according to the cooperation agreements between the Mogilev oblast and India, in November Mogilev will host the Days of Indian Movie and in December – the 2nd exhibition of traditional Indian goods. During the visit to the Mogilev oblast, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Ramesh Chander will visit the Mogotex Company and the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy in Gorki.
