News Belarusian Railways increases goods traffic by 8.8% in January-September
The Belarusian Railways takes one of the most important places in the East-West direction railway transport network. Over the nine months this year, the Belarusian Railways transported 5.5 million tonnes of goods including the Belarusian export or up 8.8% over the same period last year, it was learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Railways. Owing to the flexible tariff policy and close cooperation with the Polish Railways, in September this year, the Belarusian Railways transported 700,000 tonnes of goods or 186.1% as against September of 2008. In early October this year, the Belarusian Railways will hold a regular session to discuss an increase in goods traffic to the western direction. Specialists are expected to develop the joint commercial proposals related to the transit and export transportations to the Polish seaports of Gdansk and Gdynia. In September, the Belarusian Railways has already held a session in Brest to discuss the improvement of goods traffic (East-West-East direction). Then, representatives of the Polish Railways and forwarding companies took part in the session. Experts paid special attention to transshipment of Belarusian cargoes via Gdansk seaport (Poland).
