Israel and the Grodno oblast of Belarus intend to develop cooperation in agribusiness, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Belarus Eduard Shapira told reporters in Grodno.

During a working visit to Grodno, Eduard Shapira met with Chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Savchenko. The sides discussed the cooperation in economy, tourism and culture.

After the meeting with the Israeli Ambassador, Vladimir Savchenko noted that the Grodno oblast intends to develop cooperation with Israel in agricultural technologies (poultry and cattle breeding). The sides discussed the issues related to the export of Grodno-produced goods to Israel (products of Grodno Azot, Neman Glassworks, timber).

In turn, the diplomat noted that in late 2009 a session of the Belarusian-Israeli Intergovernmental Commission will be held. It will discuss the cooperation of both the countries in economy, culture and tourism. According to him, the trade between Israel and Belarus including the Grodno oblast is growing from year to year. Over the seven months 2009, the trade reached the level of the last year,” the Ambassador noted.

Over the eight months 2009, the trade between the Grodno oblast and Israel made up $3.2 million. In 2008, the Grodno oblast attracted Israeli investments at the amount of $5.7 million. There are six organizations with Israeli capital in the Grodno oblast.
