The Chinese corporations are participating in implementing $1bln worth of projects in Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the People’s Republic of China Anatoly Tozik said on November 22 during a meeting between first secretary of the Changchun committee of the Communist Party of China Gao Guangbin and an official delegation of the Minsk City Council. The meeting was held within the framework of the Days of Minsk in Changchun.

According to Anatoly Tozik, the countries continue cultivating harmonious relations. “We have made a lot to switch our economic cooperation from simple trade to the implementation of big mutually beneficial projects,” said the diplomat.

During the meeting Anatoly Tozik called several promising cooperation areas. For example, the northern-eastern provinces of China are actively developing the agrarian sector and Belarus could supply farm machines there. Flax cultivation and production cooperation might be promising as well. “China imports lots of flax. Let us grow flax and produce flax fibre, clothes and linen together and supply them to China, Europe,” the ambassador noted.

Belarus is also interested in setting up joint ventures to produce dried milk, milk mixtures and construction materials. Belarus shows interest in attracting Chinese construction companies to build housing. “We are ready to invite Chinese construction companies as contracting organisations and then to give them an opportunity to sell housing,” Anatoly Tozik stressed.

Moreover, the Belarusian diplomat expressed Belarus’ readiness to purchase the Chinese construction equipment – cranes, elevators and other building implements as well as up to one million tonnes of cement produced by the Changchun-based cement works.

Among the biggest Chinese projects to be carried out in Belarus in the near future Anatoly Tozik called the upgrade of three cement plants. The Chinese corporation Sitic will invest in the project.

When speaking about the trade and economic cooperation on the whole, the diplomat noted that last year the mutual trade exceeded $1 billion; this year it is projected to total $1.5 billion. Belarus is the only country that declared yuan its reserve currency to promote economic relations and trade between the two countries, the Belarusian diplomat underlined.
