Slovakia Foreign Minister to visit Belarus on 6-7 September

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajcak is expected to head a delegation of Slovak business circles during a working trip to Belarus on 6-7 September, it was learnt from representatives of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

During the visit there are plans to discuss a large number of matters relating to the bilateral cooperation, first of all, trade, economic, and investment areas as well as Belarus-EU cooperation.

7 September will see a Belarusian-Slovak business forum and a contact and cooperation exchange involving the Slovak Foreign Minister and representatives of the Belarusian Economy Ministry and the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The same day an exhibition “Slovak symphony by masters of Kovacica” will open at the National Arts Museum of Belarus. It is organized with assistance of the Slovak Embassy in Belarus.

In January-July 2009 Belarus-Slovakia trade totaled $103.7 million, 64.1% as against the same period of last year. Belarus’ export to Slovakia amounted to $42.7 million (60%), import from Slovakia — $61 million (67.4%). The major Belarusian exports are oil products, twisted ferrous metal wire, medical devices and instruments, potash fertilizers, alloy-free steel wire, ferrous metal products, tractors, refrigerators. Slovakia supplies Belarus with cars, automobile parts and accessories, control stations, panels, electrical equipment desks, TV sets. As of 1 January 2009 there were 14 companies in Belarus with a share of Slovak capital, including six joint ventures and eight foreign enterprises.
