A Latvian business club will open in Minsk in late July 2009 with the assistance of the Latvian Embassy in and Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it was learnt from the Latvian diplomatic mission. 

Latvian businessmen have created similar clubs in many countries. “Commercial and economic relations between and are rapidly developing. Latvia is interested in extending its presence in other markets, including in Belarus”, the diplomatic mission said. “It is quite reasonable that the Latvian business club will become a meeting place for Latvian businessmen to discuss cooperation issues with Belarusian partners”. The first meeting will be held next week.

Latvia is an important trading and economic partner of . In 2008, Belarus-Latvia trade totaled $2.32 billion (up 2 times), the Belarusian export to - $2.18 billion (up 2.2 times), import from - $138 million (up more than 8%). 

Belarus’ main exports to include oil products, solvents, carbon steel semis, carbon steel sticks, potash fertilizers, tractors, rough wood. Latvia exports to frozen and tinned fish, pet food, medications, metalware, textile.

In 2008, Latvia invested $97.7 million in (66% to 2007). In there are 210 economic agents with Latvian capital, of them 115 joint ventures and 95 foreign companies.
