The Mogilev-based mechanical engineering company Mogilevtransmash, a subsidiary of Minsk Automobile Plant, has started assembling eight new models of refuse collection and street-cleaning vehicles using MAZ chassis and Russian components, Mogilevtransmash Chief Engineer Mikhail Znosok told.

The company uses manufacturing cooperation schemes involving the Smolensk and Mtsensk municipal vehicle manufacturing plants as well as the Smolensk-based company SAAZ AMO ZIL. The companies supply components used to assemble several models of municipal vehicles. It took Mogilevtransmash only several months to start assembling and get certificates for manufacturing drain cleaners, gulley suckers, and other special machines. The certification of another four automobiles is underway and documents for another four vehicles are being prepared.

The project is being implemented as part of a state import substitution program. So far the vehicles are assembled using imported components but the company plans to make some of them in-house. The company has made over 100 vehicles that will be sold to Belarusian utilities companies by the end of the year. In the near future the company plans to expand the choice of special vehicles and start manufacturing suction machines and multilifts.

Founded in 1983, Mogilevtransmash is Belarus’ largest supplier of semi-trailers and trailers for trucks, Belarus’ only manufacturer of automobile cranes. The company also manufactures car lifts. Mogilevtransmash was affiliated with MAZ in 2004. The company employs over 3,300 people.
