Belarusian Railways reduces tariffs for Kaliningrad trains
The Belarusian Railways reduced tariffs for passenger and partly cargo transportation to
Kaliningrad, it was learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Railways.
The railway transportation of cast-iron and ferrous metals became cheaper. “It is important for us to maintain and later boost the transit of Russian metal products to Kaliningrad, this is why we decided to lower transit tariffs for transporting cast-iron and ferrous metals to the level adopted in Russia,” the press service said.
This decision extends to the products of Novolipetsk Steel, Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant, Tulachermet; these companies intend to increase the transportation of their products to
Kaliningrad ports by up to 1 million tonnes in 2009.
The Belarusian Railways noted that in order to boost railway passenger travel to
Kaliningrad, the company reduced passenger tariffs by 26 – 34%.
