Pakistan shows interest in Belarusian agricultural equipment

Pakistan has shown an increased interest in the Belarusian agricultural equipment and the processing industry, Deputy Minister for National Food Security and Research of Pakistan Ahmad Jamil said as he met with Belarus Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats, BelTA has learned. “The share of agriculture in the economy of Pakistan reaches 60%. Therefore, the means of mechanization are very important for our country. Furthermore, we believe that Belarus manufactures many goods with high added value. Pakistan aims to go this way as well,” the Pakistani guest said. He stressed that Belarus has achieved a high level of food security. This experience is very interesting, and Pakistan will be working to achieve the same success. Ahmad Jamil confirmed the willingness to buy a significant amount of Belarusian agricultural equipment and farm machines adapted to the climatic conditions in Pakistan. Now Belarus' major export to Pakistan is dry baby food, and the partners are interested in increasing the export of this product. He also talked about the country's interest to export mango, citrus, and rice to Belarus. One of the most promising areas of cooperation between the two countries is the development of contacts between research institutes for joint research in the field of agriculture. The delegation of Pakistan arrived in Belarus to attend Belagro 2017 expo. Ahmad Jamil assured the Belaursian agriculture minister that the Pakistani side is ready to continue to share information, technologies, projects. The two countries have already signed several important memorandums of understanding and cooperation in different areas of the economy that are the basis of interaction. “Having visited Belagro 2017 we made sure that there is a very wide range of mutually beneficial areas of cooperation where we can bolster our ties. Modern technologies that are applied in agriculture of Belarus may be applied in Pakistan,” Ahmad Jamil said. In 2016 enterprises of the Ministry of Agriculture of Belarus exported $981,000 worth of goods to Pakistan (up 38.3% as against 2015). In 2017, the export of baby food will be increased to $1.1 million. Belarus is planning to launch the export of skimmed and dried whole milk, butter, condensed milk, cheese, meat products, poultry and beef to Pakistan.
