Lukashenko urges government to mobilize all resources for economic recovery

We need to mobilize all resources and tools to ensure the economic recovery, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the government session held on 7 December to discuss the 2016 draft budget and monetary policy guidelines, BelTA has learned. The head of state remarked that today's session is focused on the targets for the coming year which will start a new five-year period, a new era in the development of the country. “This will be the year of tough budget restrictions. We need to ensure macroeconomic stability and fulfill all obligations to people. As we have promised, a person is a priority in the economy, as well as healthcare, education, and social protection. We are building the economy of knowledge. It means that science and cutting-edge technologies are our priorities too,” the Belarusian leader stressed. However, the head of state noted that at present there are more talks than actions. “Belarus is a sovereign country. Therefore, we are, first of all, responsible for the resolution of existing issues. The results of work, the efficiency of trade and the efforts to promote products on the domestic and foreign markets depend on us,” the President remarked. Demanding to mobilize all resources and tools for the economic revival, Alexander Lukashenko wanted the government and the National Bank to tell him about their expectations. “Will we invest in large enterprises and new projects? Or will we wait till a series of misfortunes in the global economy ends?” the head of state wondered. The President urged the government to create such doing business conditions which will attract investors. “I would like the government to tell me what is needed for it,” Alexander Lukashenko said. Alexander Lukashenko urged the governors to pay special attention to this issue. “You are personally responsible for the efficient development of regions. The priorities have been outlined for everyone, and we must strictly observe them.” The head of state warned the participants of the session against hollow promises and references to external factors. “We must protect and promote our national interests,” the President said.
