Belarus’ committee for standardization inspecting quality of Roshen confections

Supervisory bodies of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus are conducting tests of the quality and safety of the Roshen confections, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus.

“The supervisory bodies of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus have joined the ongoing effort to test the Roshen confectionery products. Work is being carried out in collaboration with the Healthcare Ministry. In their work the inspectors will focus on indicators of quality, product safety, labeling,” the committee informed.

It is expected that the results of the tests will be announced within a few days. All information will be summarized in order to take a weighted and unbiased decision on the goods of the Ukrainian company, stressed the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus.

Rospotrebnadzor suspended the import of Roshen products on July 29, saying toxic benzopyrene had been found in the company's milk chocolate. Instructions were issued to the customs authorities to ban the import of Roshen confections into Russia.

Headquartered in Kiev, the international corporation Roshen manufactures about 200 kinds of products. Total output is 450,000 tonnes per year. It operates confectionery factories in Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania and Hungary. Roshen exports 18,000 tonnes of sweets, of which about half goes to Russia. The company holds 26% of the Ukraine market.
