Yalta to host sincere, useful talks between CIS heads of government

(BelTA) – A meeting of the CIS heads of government is scheduled to take place in Yalta, Russia on 28 September. The meeting will involve businesslike, sincere and useful talks about future avenues of economic cooperation between member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee quoted Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary, as saying in Minsk on 18 September.

Sergei Lebedev remarked that the draft agenda of the session was formed by the Council of plenipotentiary representatives as early as late August. The agenda includes documents that were adopted by the CIS Economic Council in Ashgabad on 14 September. The documents require approval.

Sergei Lebedev said the CIS Economic Council had made very important and useful decisions on many issues for the sake of further enhancing the economic cooperation. Nine items on the agenda will be passed onto the agenda of the meeting of the CIS heads of government.

Sergei Lebedev said the meeting in Yalta will be held alongside the now traditional CIS investment and business forum Yalta Business Meetings. The CIS heads of government are expected to take part in the forum.

The CIS plenipotentiaries discussed the progress of implementing the measures timed to the Year of Communication and Informatization. They paid close attention to the preparation of projects of the CIS cooperation strategy for building and developing an information society and the action plan to implement the strategy by 2015.

The documents are supposed to enable cooperation of the CIS member states in building and developing an information society, enable them to unite efforts and to ensure effective cooperation in using information and communication technologies for the sake of further development of the national economies and bridging the digital divide in the countries.

The action plan will determine coordinated concrete avenues in the implementation of the strategy as well as their executors. Those will be interested government agencies of the CIS member states, including those that supervise and coordinate work in the area of communication, information and communication technologies, CIS industry-specific cooperation agencies, and working bodies of the regional commonwealth in the area of communication.
