Belarus’ export of automobile transportation services at $1.8bn by 2015

By 2015 the export of automobile transportation services of Belarus is expected to reach $1.8 billion, Nikolai Borovoi, Chairman of the Belarusian Association of International Road Carriers BAMAP, told a press conference on 30 May.

Nikolai Borovoi said: “Two years ago we were instructed to raise export to $460 million. In 2012 we plan to exceed $1 billion. By 2015 Belarus’ export of automobile transportation services will be about $1.8 billion”.

Reaching the goal requires the necessary volume of export and import operations, well-trained personnel, and quite competitive vehicles.

Nikolai Borovoi believes Belarus has the potential to reach the goal. In 2011 the export of Belarusian automobile transportation services went up nearly 40%, with about 25% secured by the removal of customs borders between Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan. Besides, over 60% of the vehicles used by Belarusian forwarding agencies are compliant with the international ecological standards Euro-4 and Euro-5. The indicator is above that in other Customs Union member states. “We can use the vehicle fleet to face tough competition and achieve a serious success while delivering a much lower environmental impact,” said Nikolai Borovoi.

Sergei Negrei, Head of the Foreign Trade and Permission System Office of the Transport and Communications Ministry, mentioned the high potential of Belarusian forwarding agencies. In January-March 2012 the export of automobile transportation services to Kazakhstan grew by 145%, with the export to Russia up by 18% as against 2011. Kazakhstan and Russia accounted for over 37% of Belarus’ total export of automobile transportation services. Besides, the foreign trade surplus totaled $164 million, 24.5% up on the year.
