Gennady Zyuganov urges Russia, Belarus, Ukraine to unite their potential
MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Russia, Belarus and Ukraine should combine their potential for the successful development of the three states. This statement was made by Gennady Zyuganov, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF), head of the KPRF faction in the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, as he met with members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on 28 October, BelTA has learnt. “Our peoples have a historic future only in one case: if Russia, Belarus and Ukraine unite their potential,” the Russian politician said. He is convinced that if it does not happen, “we will be severely exploited by our rich and strong neighbors.” This is why, he believes, the three countries should do their utmost “to improve, strengthen and vigorously promote their relations”. Gennady Zyuganov has warned against absolutizing certain statements by high-profile officials. “We have lived peacefully in a single state our entire life. And all of a sudden they start raising some issues and putting them into absolute terms. It is wrong”, he said. Gennady Zyuganov informed that he had discussed Belarus-Russia relations with the Russian authorities not long ago. In his words, “they understand the need to improve the relations and build them in a decent way”. “We should try to settle all the disagreements without making a fuss,” Gennady Zyuganov said. He expressed readiness to promote good relations between Belarus and Russia, “I will do whatever I can to improve the relations and protect them from any harm.” Gennady Zyuganov urged the Russian and Belarusian authorities to focus on the development of new technologies, thoroughfares, search for new markets and other important things that will help the two states overcome the aftermath of the global financial and economic crisis. It is the crisis that represents the gravest threat for both Belarus and Russia and other countries worldwide.
