BPC raises prices for potassium chloride for Brazil, Southeast Asia

The Belarusian Potash Company (BPC) revised upward the prices for potassium chloride for Brazil and Southeast Asia on 1 September, BelTA learnt from Filipp Gritskov, spokesman for BPC.

New prices for potassium chloride shipped to Brazil will make up $410 per tonne for large importers and $420 per tonne for small importers. Prizes for spot transactions for Asia will total $405 per tonne of conventional potassium chloride and $420 per tonne of pelletized potassium chloride.

According to Filipp Gritskov, the increase in prices is attributed to a growing demand for potassium on the major markets. The growth considerably surpasses analysts’ expectations.

Brazil is one of the biggest markets of potash fertilizers in the world. According to Fertecon International Multimedia News Agency, in 2009, around 6.5 million tonnes of potassium chloride was sold to Brazil. The Brazilian market is a spot market – the supplies are carried out according to short-term contracts.

Belarusian Potash Company (BPC) is an exclusive supplier of potash fertilizers produced by the Belaruskalii Production Association (Soligorsk) and the Russia’s Uralkali to the international market. The company was set up in 2006. Uralkali owns 50% in the BPC stock, Belaruskali 45% and Belarusian Railways has 5%. The company sells its products to Africa, Europe, India, China, the USA, the Pacific region, Central and South America. The company has a well-developed distribution network and representative offices in Beijing (China), New Delhi (India), Singapore, San Paulo (Brazil) and Chicago (USA).
