Belarus, Poland in negotiations to build transboundary power line

Belarus is in negotiations with Poland on building an interstate power line with the annual throughput capacity of about 5 billion kWh. The project is part of Belarus’ energy potential development strategy. The document has been approved by Council of Ministers resolution No 1180 and is designed to run till 2020. The document has been published by the national legal website zakon.by, BelTA has learned.

The new power line will enable future increase in electricity export and transit and the diversification of energy supplies to Belarus.

In line with the document Belarus has well-developed interstate power lines, namely three 330kV lines and one 750kV line to Russia, two 330kV lines to Ukraine, five 330kV lines to Lithuania, one 110kV line and one 220kV line to Poland. The power lines can be used to import electricity to Belarus and export it to bordering countries.
