A delegation of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland will arrive in Minsk on 12 July. The delegation led by Wladyslaw Husejko, Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, will get familiar with the economic potential of the Minsk Oblast, BelTA learned from the Belarus Consulate General in Polish Gdansk.

The Polish delegation includes representatives of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Administration, deputies of the local councils, educational establishments of Szczecin, the center of the region, businessmen. During the talks, Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Boris Batura and Wladislaw Husejko are expected to discuss the cooperation between the regions. In February 2010, the Minsk Oblast and the West Pomeranian Voivodeship concluded a partnership agreement. The Polish side is interested in Belarus’ experience of construction of big sports and cultural facilities and creation of the companies engaged in the IT business. The Polish delegation will visit the Minsk-Arena Sports Center, the Belarus National Library and the High-Tech Park. The Polish guests will visit a number of Minsk companies, meet with the Belarusian businessmen to establish and expand cooperation. The Police Chemical Plant, one of the biggest Polish industrial companies, would like to expand business contacts with the Belarusian Potash Company.

According to Ruslan Yesin, Consul General of Belarus to Gdansk, the sides are expected to discuss the participation of the Belarusian side in the Baltic-Adriatic international railway project. The goal of the project is to diversify the freight traffic from the north to the south of Europe by railways. According to the diplomat, the Belarusian exporters and foreign investors could be interested in Belarus’ participation in that project as the Polish railways link Polish seaports and Belarus.

Annually Szczecin hosts the International Self-Government Forum. The delegation of the Minsk Oblast attended the forum in early 2010 for the first time. According to the diplomat, the Belarusian side may become a full-fledged member of the forum.

Ruslan Yesin also noted that in Q3 2010 the Logoisk region (Minsk Oblast) and the Szczecinek Region (West Pomeranian Voivodeship) will sign a cooperation agreement.

The visit of the delegation of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship to the Minsk Oblast will be running through 14 July.
