On 21 June the Council of Ministers of Belarus sent a letter to Gazprom offering a compromise solution to the current gas situation. The letter was signed by First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko, BelTA learnt from the Council of Ministers’ Office.

The Belarusian side suggests that Gazprom pays off the arrears for gas transit to Beltransgaz to the tune of $217 million. Beltransgaz, on its part, pays off its debt for gas supplies to Belarus in May 2010 till 23 June and discharge the indebtedness of $187 million for gas supplies in January-April 2010.
