Alexander Lukashenko to meet with Ilham Aliyev 3 June
Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko, who is in Azerbaijan on an official visit, is set to meet with the country’s president Ilham Aliyev on 3 June.

The two presidents will hold private and expanded talks. The sides are expected to sign a joint declaration and a package of bilateral documents on economy, information technologies, social security, environmental protection and statistics following the negotiations.

Alexander Lukashenko will lay a wreath at the tomb of Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev and the Shehidler Xiyabani (Martyrs' Lane) monument.

This is the second visit of Belarusian President to Azerbaijan; Alexander Lukashenko visited the country in 2007. Ilham Aliyev also traveled to Belarus twice – in October 2006 and November 2009.

In 2009, Azerbaijan ranked sixth in Belarus’ foreign trade with the CIS member states, moving from 6th to 5th position in terms of exports. The trade turnover made up $124.6 million (up 1.6% as against 2008). Belarus had a $116 million trade surplus. In January-March 2010 the bilateral trade totaled $42.8 million that is 27.8% up on the same period 2009.
