Today the national culture acquires more political force and significance as a reliable guarantor of people’s identity and individuality, an important competitive advantage in the age of globalization, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko stated during the awarding ceremony of the Spiritual Revival award and special prizes for culture and art on 8 January.

“We consider it as a strategic resource of the country, a cornerstone of our independence,” the President stressed.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that the awarding ceremony is traditionally held during the Christmas celebrations: “The Belarusian people treat Christmas as one of the most important festivities. People celebrate it with joy and open heart. They wish health, happiness, every success to each other and wellbeing to their country”.

From the earliest times Belarus is by right known as a land of wise men where spirituality, enlightenment and book are valued most of all. The head of state noted that “the Orthodox Church has played an important role here”.

“Our temples and castles, rites and legends, literature and priceless masterpieces make an integral part of the world heritage,” he emphasized.
