Belarusian school students win six medals at International Mathematical Olympiad

(BelTA) - Belarusian school students have clinched six medals at the 54th International Mathematical Olympiad held in Santa Marta, Colombia, BelTA learnt from Spokesperson for the Education Ministry Yulia Vanina.

Alexei Semchenkov (Gymnasium No.41, Minsk) was the best in the six-strong Belarusian team to win the gold medal. Silver went to Artyom Zhuk and Dmitry Boborov (both - Gymnasium No.41, Minsk). Bronze medals were bagged by Bogdan Gilevich and Yelizaveta Dovgyalo (both - the Lyceum of the Belarusian State University (BSU), Minsk) and also Anastasia Zhirkevich (Gymnasium No.3, Bobruisk).

The team was supervised by head of the Higher Mathematics Department of the BSU, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Professor Sergei Mazanik and associate professor of the Higher Algebra and Information Security Department of the BSU, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Igor Voronovich.

According to Yulia Vanina, the Belarusian team consisted of the winners of the Belarusian National Olympiads held on all levels from school competitions to the nationwide ones. Special practice sessions were held prior to the International Mathematical Olympiad to choose the best school students who would represent Belarus at the international competition.
