Belarus eager to team up with Vietnam, Laos to make potash fertilizers

Belarus is interested in cooperation with Vietnam and Laos for the sake of setting up a transnational corporation to make potash fertilizers, said Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Belarus Dang Huy Tran on 5 June. Dang Huy Tran’s diplomatic mission in Belarus is about to complete, BelTA has learned.

“I think we can accomplish a project to set up a transnational corporation to make potash fertilizers together with your country and Laos,” Mikhail Myasnikovich told the Ambassador. Belarus is also ready to build a phosphorous fertilizer factory in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister underlined positive changes in Belarus-Vietnam trade turnover. Over the last five years the bilateral trade quadrupled. “It is a very good indicator. Today we look upon cooperation with Vietnam not only from the point of view of trade and economic relations,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich. “We, I mean the Customs Union, would like to enter the ASEAN free trade zone via Vietnam. It is a huge market with a population of 500 million people”.

According to the Prime Minister, Belarus has discussed the possibility and prospects of entering the market this way with Russia. “There is an understanding. It is profitable for everyone because recession processes are registered in Europe and other countries. We should be ready to raise the volume of mutual trade and investments with other countries,” he added.

The matter may be discussed during the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich to Vietnam. The visit is scheduled for December 2012.

Mikhail Myasnikovich pointed out the importance of implementing joint projects together with Vietnam. As an example he mentioned the construction of a plant to make MAZ vehicles in Vietnam. “There are some difficulties but they can be resolved,” he said. Belarus expects to bolster cooperation with Vietnam in scientific and technical field as well. “I wish such projects could move faster,” added the Prime Minister.

The Belarusian head of government pointed out the considerable contribution of the ambassador to the development and strengthening of Belarus-Vietnam relations. Mikhail Myasnikovich said he hopes the good initiatives will be passed onto the new ambassador. “We have built trustful and kind humanly relations. You are truly devoted to respectfully treating the host country while promoting interests of your country,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
