Advance Electronic Cargo Information in Customs Union as from 17 June

Advance electronic cargo information will be required for the goods imported to the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan by transport vehicles as from 17 June 2012, head of the chief department for customs clearance and customs control of the Federal Customs Service of Russia Vladimir Ivin told a press conference in Moscow on 11 May.

The novelty will go in force in accordance with the relevant decision of the Customs Union Commission. According to Vladimir Ivin, the move will allow for observance of framework international trade security standards and enhance the capacity of the Customs Union checkpoints. The new rules will require advance transmission of electric cargo information to the authorized economic operators, forwarders as well as customs forwarders, customs officers and other stakeholders via official websites of the customs services of the Customs Union member states.

According to Vladimir Ivin, the novelty will not be required for goods and transport vehicles for personal use of natural persons; international postal items; goods and transport vehicles meant for mitigation of consequences of natural disasters and accidents as well as for transportation of military cargoes.

In the future similar practices will be introduced for goods imported by rail, sea and air.
