92 young scientists to receive presidential grants in 2012

Presidential grants in 2012 have been earmarked for 92 talented young scientists. The relevant instruction has been signed by President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian head of state.

24 scholars are engaged in technical sciences, 19 in medical sciences, 35 in natural sciences, and 14 in humanities.

The grants were assigned to promising researchers who have taken part in important research projects with a great academic and practical value.

For example, the research carried out by Natalia Konoplya resulted in a new method of treating brain cancer in children. The new method increased the survival rate by 22% and was introduced into treatment protocols of the Union State.

The results of the research by Dmitry Shelkovsky are used to search for new particles in proton-proton collisions in the Large Hadron Collider in CERN (Switzerland).

The research carried out by Yevgeny Baranyshin is used in the industrial production of black carbon (the contract is estimated at $1.5 million).

Upon the instruction of the head of state, the achievements of young scientists and their contribution to the socioeconomic development of the country were assessed using single criteria regardless of their degrees. They will all receive Br2 million per month.

These grants are a testimony to constant support of young scientists by the government.
